Jared Fraley didn’t realize it at first. Then we started talking about the Law of Relativity and he made the connection.
There is always something you do better than others, and on the flip side, there are things you don’t do as well. That’s the essence of the Principle.
In our case, Jared totally smokes me on shooting and firearms. You could rate me as a zero on a scale of 1-10. But as an ex Marine, active shooter, firearms collector and overall enthusiast, He is closer to the top of the scale. So Relatively, he is much, better, stronger and bigger, than me.
Now on the topic of business experience and success it’s the polar opposite.
Being more than twice as old as Jared means more than double the background. Add to that the years he spent in service to the country, that I didn’t, and it tilts the scale even more. Then add in the hallmark of being in the top 1% of income earners as a business owner compared to a soldiers salary and you see how it appears.
Use it in your favor
Anyone can use this Principle for or against themselves. Using the Law of Relativity in his favor by comparing us on terms where he is bigger and more accomplished than almost anyone puts him in a strong position.
Everyone should put this powerful tool to work for themselves. There is always something you know more about, or do better, than those you come in contact with. Focus your attention there and use it to feel good and empower yourself.
Now the interesting thing about this story is that Steve Hordinski, Josh Lanier and I were meeting with Jared because we’re searching for like minded men and women to join our Mastermind. Very close to the top of the list of 31major causes of failure is indecision. Procrastination is a foe every successful person must defeat before climbing the hill to victory. Here’s one of the areas that Jared excelled.
After sitting quietly and intently listening to and evaluating each of us he calmly, with no fanfare stated very honestly that he would make a decision “soon”. When asked to define that in terms of time, he did. It meant several hours.
Here’s where he demonstrated his next leadership trait. He’s a man of his word. Before the afternoon was out he informed Josh of his decision and proceeded to model the next major indicator of leadership. He backed up his word with concrete action and got into activity immediately.
