I struggled with this…
…and it cost me.
Because of perceptions probably programmed in my youth, I initially rejected this wisdom. It reminds me a bit of Rio Perdido, the Lost River in Costa Rica. The river is hidden from view by a deep canyon brimming with towering trees, but once discovered holds a trove of hot springs, flowing falls and flowering trees.
When we start talking about universal principles and natural laws we’re at risk of confusion. One of the most common questions that arises is…
“If we’re dealing with something that’s infinite, all knowing and beyond the ability of our minds to grasp, much less fully understand, then what hope is there for me to know how to put these principles to work advancing my thoughts, hopes, dreams and desires?
The Kybalion answers that question with the second natural law.
The principle of correspondence
“As above, so below. As below, so above.” In short, that means that there is always a correspondence, a balance, a mirror of sorts between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life.
Without question, there are planes beyond our knowing, but when we apply the principle of correspondence to them we are able to understand much that would otherwise be unknowable to us. This principle is of universal application and manifestation, on the various planes of the material, mental, and spiritual universe – it is a universal law.
This principle is considered one of the most important mental instruments by which we, humankind, are able to pry aside the obstacles which hide from view the unknown.
Think about it this way –
Even though we can’t see distant Sun’s and galaxies with our naked eyes, by using the principles of geometry, and a telescope, we can measure and observe and predict their movements. In the same way, with a knowledge of the principle of correspondence we are able to reason intelligently from the known to the un-known.
In the natural world when a seed is dropped into the ground it’s springs into activity, and in the act of living, produces 100 more seeds. Life, by living, multiplies itself. It is forever becoming more; it must do so to exist.
We live in a mental universe
Intelligence is under the same necessity for continuous increase as things in the material world.
Every thought we think makes it necessary for us to think another thought. Consciousness is continually expanding.
And we are subject to the urge of life. In seeking expression for this urge, we are in impelled to know more, to do more, and to be more.
So, in a sense, it is the desire of the Almighty that you should use these principles to become more, to be rich, to have more. The richer you become, the more fully you are giving Him expression. You can live more in you if you have unlimited command of the means of life.
Do you get how exciting this is!?
How big is your vision? You see, there are no limits, other than those we place on ourselves, to what we can do, be, and have.
